Flexible focus and rest rhythms for Windows 10 and 11
A better way to remember to take breaks on Windows
A useful Windows break reminder does more than display an isolated notification. Work•Rhythm and Guided•Work•Rhythm help you place breaks inside a regular work-and-rest rhythm, with room to adapt when meetings, deadlines, or deep focus change the shape of the day.
Try Work•RhythmWhy breaks are easy to skip
Computer work can absorb attention for longer than expected. A demanding problem, a sequence of meetings, or a deadline can make the passage of time less noticeable. Even when a break was planned, it may be postponed because the current task feels almost finished or because another commitment has already begun.
A notification by itself cannot understand that context. It can tell you that an interval ended, but the next useful step may be to rest, extend the current phase briefly, or pause the rhythm until a meeting finishes. A practical reminder therefore needs a predictable structure and simple ways to respond when the day does not follow the plan.
Work•Rhythm and Guided•Work•Rhythm approach this as a rhythm rather than a stream of alerts. Focus and Rest are connected phases, and the schedule can reflect different periods of the day.
Two ways to build more consistent breaks
Work•Rhythm focuses on structure. You can create morning, afternoon, and evening work periods, set focus and rest durations, and receive a reminder when it is time to switch. If you need a little more time, you can extend the current focus or rest period instead of abandoning the schedule. You can also pause and resume when the day is interrupted.
Guided•Work•Rhythm is a separate Windows app built around rhythm plus Guidance. During Rest, it can show brief, low-pressure suggestions such as moving, stretching, relaxing your eyes, adjusting your posture, drinking water, breathing, or stepping away from the screen. These are optional prompts rather than medical advice or a demand to complete another task.
Guided•Work•Rhythm also lets Pro users create Custom Guidance with their own words and local images. A photo of a pet, family member, favorite place, or another personally meaningful scene can make a break prompt feel more relevant without uploading that content to a developer cloud account.
Work•Rhythm or Guided•Work•Rhythm?
The apps share a sustainable focus-and-rest approach, but they are separate products with separate licenses. Choose based on whether you mainly want structure or want Guidance to be central to the experience.

Windows includes Focus sessions through the Clock app, where you can choose a session length and include breaks. Work•Rhythm is designed specifically around configurable focus and rest rhythms for different parts of your whole workday.
Can I customize break intervals?
Yes. Work•Rhythm and Guided•Work•Rhythm let you configure focus and rest durations within your daily work periods.
Can I temporarily delay a break?
You can extend the current focus or rest period, and you can pause and resume the rhythm when an interruption changes your plan.
What is Rest Guidance?
Rest Guidance is a brief, low-pressure prompt shown during rest-related states in Guided•Work•Rhythm. It can suggest simple options such as moving, stretching, relaxing your eyes, or stepping away from the screen. It is not medical advice.
Is my activity data uploaded?
Schedules, settings, and activity records stay on your device. Work•Rhythm does not automatically upload activity data. Guided content and personal images also stay on the device for core use. Microsoft Store services handle distribution, purchases, and license verification.

Neither app requires its own WorkRhythm cloud account for normal use. Microsoft Store may have separate account requirements for downloading, purchasing, verifying, or restoring an app purchase.
